Kiwis made in India? Yes, they are grown in Arunachal Pradesh. But unfortunately, you will miss them in markets of India because they get labeled as New Zealand Kiwis and sold to consumers like us unwary of its origin.
And why is that?
Because Indian consumers prefer foreign labeled Kiwis, while considering locally sourced fruits as cheap and are willing to pay more for the foreign labeled ones. When there were no takers, marketers got an idea: they stuck Zespri labels on these Arunachal Kiwis and suddenly these were selling at 30% more price in Delhi markets. But are the farmers in Arunachal Pradesh getting any benefit? Sadly, no.
